Internet Filter Myths

Myth:
My kids are "good kids" and I don't have to worry about them going where they shouldn't on the Internet.

Fact:
The overwhelming majority of children ages 8-19 have been exposed to online pornography. Many children are accidentally exposed to offensive web content for the first time while doing homework.

Myth:
I would know if my kids were going to inappropriate websites.

Fact:
While a majority of kids surveyed have viewed online porn, only 16% of their parents were aware of their actions.

Myth:
An Internet filter is overly restrictive and will block access to wholesome websites I want to see.

Fact:
This may have been true of filtering technology eight years ago, but today's filtering technology is highly effective at blocking offensive websites without preventing access to wholesome sites. Also, the Integrity Online filter has a password-protected on-off switch a parent can control. The service also allows parents to exempt or add websites to filter.

Myth:
I have "parental controls" with my ISP so I don't need a filter.

Fact:
Usually offered by big multinational corporations such as AOL Time Warner and Microsoft, "parental control" services are often designed to not offend anyone. While you may feel good about having them turned on, many customers say they simply don't work.

Myth:
I don't need to filter my employees at the office.

Fact:
More porn is viewed online during the 9-5 workday than any other time. When surveyed, even 39% of church pastors say that online Internet porn is a constant temptation.

Lost productivity due to personal Internet browsing is costing employers an estimated $50 billion every year.
